Amrapali Village, I’puram: What happened to the lifts?

Posted: Mar 09, 2017     By Abid Hussain Barlaskar

Residents of Amrapali Village, a residential society in Indirapuram near Kala Patthar Park, complain of frequently malfunctioning lifts. In fact, there have been two malfunctions in the last few months.

In one incident, a nine-year-old boy was stuck in a lift, which fell from the fifth floor of a tower and stopped on the first floor. Similarly, in another incident, a senior citizen — a heart patient — was stuck in the lift a few weeks back. He was rescued by the residents and the maintenance staff.

Speaking to City Spidey, AOA members of the society said the root of the problem lay in a disagreement between KONE, the lift service provider, and Amrapali group. Post handover of the society, KONE was reluctant to provide maintenance services for the lift because the builder had not cleared the earlier dues.

The issue has been finally resolved, Rakesh Kumar, AOA general secretary, confirmed to City Spidey, and the lift maintenance agreement with KONE has been renewed. “The current agreement will be considered valid from December 2016, when the handover took place,” said Kumar.

Many of the society’s maintenance issues, such as common area upkeep and security, were resolved by the current AOA team. As in the case of KONE, security service providers, too, were reluctant to provide further services as the builder had not paid their dues despite collecting maintenance charges from the residents.

"The AOA is trying hard to get the builder to provide at least the services promised. But, at the same time, we have been trying to break our ties with the builder,” added Kumar .
