Muncipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is planning to construct compost units in various sectors of the city. It also intends to enlist the help of RWAs for the project. Only solid waste would be sent to Bandhwari plant.

Amit Khatri, additional municipal commissioner, said, “The garbage collected from homes would be segregated, and compost would be prepared from liquid and kitchen waste."

The corporation also has a website (www.mcg.gov.in) for waste management, which provides the details of the compost units in RWA areas and also the amount of compost formed.

According to MCG officials, more than 600 metric tonnes of waste is collected from the city, but there are no effective means of disposal. This community-driven step, they add, would be a huge leap in solving this age-old problem.
