Residents demand better civic amenities

Residents of Vasundhara and Vaishali in Ghaziabad are up in arms against civic authorities for the lack of basic amenities in some sectors. Residents from sectors 15 to 19 in Vasundhara, and Sector 6 in Vaishali assembled at Agrasen Chowk and organised a procession. It culminated at the Sector 10 zonal office of the municipal corporation, where they handed over a list of demands to the newly elected mayor, Ashu Verma

"The areas have been facing grave civic problems for a long time now. Residents demand permanent areas for garbage dumps and dustbins, upkeep of the green belt, repairing and cleaning of the sewers, and maintenance of open and broken drains. The condition of the roads, too, are deplorable. The residents have given a March 31 deadline to the mayor," said KP Singh, general secretary of the Sector 16 RWA, Vasundhara.

Residents also warned Verma that if their problems were not looked into by the deadline, they would be forced to start an agitation.

The mayor has assured them that he will call a meeting with all concerned officials on March 8 and address the issues as soon as possible.
