All token counters have been closed at the Sector 16 Metro station in Noida. Instead, tokens will be dispensed by ticket vending machines (TVM). Four such machines have been set up at the station.

Despite six Metro stations in Noida, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) made this arrangement only in Sector 16, as they say the number of smart-card passengers here is high and the demand for tokens is less, compared to other stations. Most commuters here come from Film City and Sector 16A.

There were three token counters open during peak hours and one counter at other times. DMRC says the daily footfall at the Sector 16 Metro station is about 27,000; and 65 per cent of commuters are said to use smart cards.

A DMRC official told City Spidey that token counters have been closed at select Metro stations in the NCR and that the corporation has increased the number of TVMs to cater to commuters. If commuters face any problems at these stations, token counters will be reopened.

The arrangement will be replicated at other Metro stations in Noida in some time.
