Ghaziabad: Anti-encroachment drive till March 24

The city-wide drive, which began on March 17, will demolish both temporary and permanent structures. It will also penalise shopkeepers who rent out space in front of their shops to vendors.

Ghaziabad: Anti-encroachment drive till March 24 The campaign around Vijaynagar area

The Ghaziabad district administration started its anti-encroachment campaign from March 17. The city-wide drive is set to continue till the 24th.

Nidhi Kesarwani, Ghaziabad DM, said, “The drive will demolish both temporary and permanent encroachments. The focus will be on areas surrounding Kaushambi and Vaishali Metro Stations.”

The drive will be carried out in areas around Kala Patthar Road, Shipra Mall, Bihari Market, Vasundhara, Sectors 11 and 16, Old Bus Station, Govindapuram, Shastri Nagar and other parts of the city.

The demolitions will happen under the supervision of the police and officials of the city administration.

One major concern of the campaign is dealing with shopkeepers who rent out the space in front of their shops to vendors. Strict action will be initiated against such shopkeepers, confirmed officials.

Atul Kumar, ADM, Ghaziabad, who spearheaded the campaign on the first day, said, “Demolitions were carried out in Vasundhara — from Buddh Chowk till Atal Chowk; from Atal Chowk to Sector 19, and the area around Vaishali Metro Station.”

Drives were also conducted in the Vijaynagar area — it will continue in the trans-Hindon area on March 18.

Encroachments are one of the major causes of traffic snarls around the city, and the residents have been since long requesting the district administration to do something about the menace.
