About 300 bike enthusiasts assembled at Crowne Plaza, Sector 29, Gurgaon, for a road-safety awareness bike rally that was flagged off by Sandeep Khirwar, police commissioner, at 3 pm on March 18.
Women police personnel were given 50 scooters for patrolling the city. There were 100 male and 200 female police personnel present at the occasion.
About 150 female residents, too, came with their two-wheelers for the rally.
According to police officials, the initiative would not only help ramp up patrolling but also help take the injured, if any, to hospitals in case of emergencies. Female police personnel would also spread the message of women's empowerment in the city.
Dharna Yadav, ACP, said, “It was important to make the female police personnel more independent. We are thankful to the police department and Hero Motocorp for having taken a step in that direction.”
“We will be able to readily respond to complaint calls. I am excited to go on patrol and quite sure that this will help the whole department,” said Kailash Devi, SHO of Women Police Station, Sector 51.
