Women's week: Health first

The RWA of Sector 39, Noida, organised a health-awareness programme on Sunday for women to mark International Women’s Day. Dr Usha Nayar, former chairman of Department of Physiology, AIIMS, Delhi, was the chief guest.

Inaugurating the programme, Dr Nayar, who has also had a stint at Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain, described health consciousness as key to women’s empowerment.

“Without health, no one can fight for their rights and privileges,” she said. "It's imperative that we spread awareness about the importance of health in women.”

Listing the benefits of good health, Dr Nayar said, “A health-conscious woman ensures her whole family is healthy."

Her speech was followed by a line-up of cultural programmes, which included an inspirational skit by the sector's children on the importance of women in society, and a dance performance by a resident, Shruti Tyagi.

Wrapping up the event, RWA president Vatsala Parashar called on women to make themselves physically and emotionally strong so they could protect not only their own interests but also that of others.

She drew the attention of the authorities to the deteriorating law and order situation in Noida, saying girls and women dread stepping out of the homes after dusk. She said increased night patrol by the police would instil a sense of security in the residents of the society.
