Residents were not amused by the additional district magistrate's decision to allow the daily market on the footpath, as they said it would only be a matter of time that it spilled out on to the road again.

Bihari Market is single-handedly responsible for traffic congestion on the road between Shipra Srishti and Shipra Krishna Vista, in Ahinsa Khand I, Indirapuram.
After a number of follow-ups and protests from residents of nearby societies, the district administration and local police have come to the conclusion that the vendors will no longer be selling their wares on the road.
Speaking to City Spidey, Atul Kumar, additional district magistrate of Ghaziabad, said the daily market would only be allowed if the vendors conducted their business on the footpath and not on the road.
Recently, residents of Shipra Krishna Vista had blocked the roads in the area to protest against the market.
Residents, however, have taken the administration's decision to allow the market to operate on the footpaths with a pinch of salt.
Speaking to City Spidey, Deepak Sethi, general secretary of Shipra Krishna Vista's AOA, said the footpath in the area was a narrow stretch and it was only a matter of time before they encroached upon the road again. "A designated vending zone is the need of the hour," he said.
Sethi was also of the opinion that unorganised markets such as this provided purse and chain snatchers the cover of a bustling crowd to stalk their victims and then strike when they were on clearer stretches. "There have been several incidents of purse and chain snatching in the area," he confirmed.
