Why Noida's Sec 15A is my kinda neighbourhood

Fresh after launching her spring-summer collection, which showcases a combination of Indian and Uzbek cultures, fashion designer Madhu Jain breathes easy in her Noida neighbourhood.

Why Noida's Sec 15A is my kinda neighbourhood

When we moved into Noida’s Sector 15A in 1993 from a Lutyens bungalow in Civil Lines, I thought we were headed to the boonies. Granted, our new house accorded our joint family more individual space, and I was finally able to have a well-designed home and spacious rooms, but I had visions of my social life coming to a standstill. And I was seriously worried whether my clients would come all the way to faraway Noida to pick up a Madhu Jain outfit!

But how wrong I was! Over the years, I have come to cherish my neighbourhood and value all that it has to offer. And the icing on the cake is that both my work and social life are on track!

Here's why I love my neighbourhood:

- It is the first sector in Noida as you enter from Delhi. Khan Market, one of my favourite haunts, is only 20 minutes away by car — as is Connaught Place. In fact, commuting to Delhi is easier than from many parts of Delhi!

- The first thing that comes to mind in Sector 15A is how well groomed it is. It is green and leafy, neat and well laid out. The absence of high-rises is another huge plus point.

- There is a sense of neighbourliness in the sector. Residents are proud to belong to this sector.

- Our RWA is an active, strong body. Headed by Inderjeet Syal, the association ensures adherence to laws governing responsible community life, which includes protection of resident rights in this sector.

- Our round-the-clock security guards who man the sector gates keep us safe and are prompt at responding to SOS calls. Happily, they are jacks of all trades – once, when I wanted to contact a guard, I was told he was chasing away monkeys from a resident’s house!

- Service personnel such as plumbers and electricians are on call 24x7.

- Sector 15A’s shopping needs are taken care of by our very own, well equipped supermarket complex, Rajanigandha. It has the added advantage of having branches of some of the Khan Market stores, of which Allied Fruits is a hot favourite of mine.

- Lastly, there are beautiful parks in this sector, which are a haven for fitness buffs, especially morning walkers and bicyclists. These parks also serve a community function — groups of residents often meet to chat, exchange news and share a laugh or two.

- Sector 15A is home to me today. It has all the essentials of a neighbourhood that make it worth living in!
