Gurgaon: Dug-up road at Fazilpur Crossing irks commuters

A two-kilometre stretch of road on Fazilpur Crossing on Sohna Road, Gurgaon, that was dug up about more than three months ago for repair work has become a nuisance for commuters and residents of nearby societies.

This is an approach road to several townships and societies, such as Silver Crest Villas, Eldico Mansionz, Spaze Privy and CHD Avenue 71, and also leads to CD Chowk. Lancers Startup Daycare, Vega School and GD Goenka Public School are also affected due to long traffic jams.

Residents say the cemented approach road, which was built two years ago, was dug up without a concrete plan for reconstruction. Debris and potholes due to uneven digging have also created several problems, such as waterlogging and breeding of pigs on the road.

Abhinav Bansal, joint secretary of Spaze Privy RWA, says, “One can’t walk on foot on this road. As this is the only road to reach home, it cannot be ignored. I don’t understand why the authorities decided to strengthen it when it was in already in good condition.”

According to the project details mentioned at CD Chowk on Sohna Road, the road strengthening work was supposed to begin in October, 2016, and end in April, 2017. However, residents allege that the work began in December and was left midway.

“Covering this stretch during peak hours takes more than an hour. We pay all the taxes but are still deprived of basic infrastructure,” says Ravinder Shekhawat, vice-president of the CHD Avenue 71 RWA.

Sanjay Mathur, a resident of CHD Avenue 71, says, “There are over 1,000 families in the area but there are no streetlights, which increases the risk of mishaps at night.”

“It’s risky to move out of the society as there is heavy traffic all the time. Trucks loaded with construction material plying on the road add to our problems as there is too much dust all around. Basic repair work would have been enough,” he adds.

When City Spidey spoke to Rohit Yadav, joint commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, he said, “We were working on the widening of the road as there is heavy vehicular movement the entire day. We levelled the road to solve traffic congestion. But the repair work has been delayed due to sector transfer. Once the developer submits the requisite documents, we would begin the work.”
