District education officers from Gurgaon, Hissar, Ambala and Rohtak districts will be given directions on how to deal with frequent parents' issues such as fee hikes, and purchase of stationery and uniforms.
After several protests over fee hikes in Gurgaon schools, Haryana’s additional chief secretary (ACS) PK Das has decided to convene a meeting in Panchkula on April 5. At the meeting, district education officers from Gurgaon, Hissar, Ambala and Rohtak districts will be given directions on how to deal with frequent issues faced by parents, such as fee hikes, and purchase of stationery and uniforms.
Though the meeting is to primarily address the fee and funds of private schools, no formal agenda has been circulated yet, said a senior official of the education department.
The department has been receiving numerous complaints from parents over the past few years, with most complaints being about arbitrary hikes in school fees.
According to sources, the education department will form several teams in the district to keep a check on private, affiliated and aided schools. Schools that are guilty of exorbitant fee hikes and forcing parents to buy textbooks and uniforms from specific stores will be inspected based on complaints registered. The district education officer will send a detailed report on anomalous schools, depending on which suitable action will be taken against them.
“We will have clarity on what do do against errant schools once the ACS passes directions on April 5," said Neelam Bhandari, district education officer, Gurgaon.
