In a bid to conserve the environment, residents of sectors 22 and 23 in Dwarka have come forward to prevent three fully-grown trees from being cut down.

These trees are located in Sector 22 near Vasundhara CGHS and Bhagwati CGHS.

SS Mann, vice-president of Sukh Dukh Ke Saathi, a social organisation, and a resident of Sadbhavna Apartments, Sector 22, told City Spidey, “We learnt that a builder was planning to cut them for construction at commercial plot no. 1 adjacent to the societies. We called the deputy director, horticulture, DDA, on March 22 and our president wrote a letter to the department regarding the issue on March 24.”

The letter contained details of the part of the commercial plot opposite the Metro station in Sector 22 that has been leased for a limited period to Bhagwati CGHS. The society is under construction. SDKS also sent photographs of the trees along with the letter.

Shashi Kapoor, president of SDKS and a resident of Dream Apartments, Sector 22, said, “They are reportedly planning to open a main gate on the plot next to a petrol pump opposite Bank Vihar Apartments by cutting down the trees or by heavy pruning.”

When City Spidey spoke to YD Sharma, deputy director of horticulture, DDA, he said, “I have spoken to the residents. If the trees are cut without permission of the forest department, we will file FIR against the violators.”
