Residents said the civic body should shift its focus to the problem at hand till the corporation's next session comes to power.
Dwarka's sanitary condition has started deteriorating ever since the municipal corporation election date was announced (April 23).
Residents from various societies said their garbage was not being cleaned regularly, as the sweepers had become irregular. They said due to delimitation of wards — the act of fixing new ward boundaries — and the election code of conduct coming into force, the acting councillors were not too concerned about the deplorable state the sub-city had plunged into.
"After delimitation, the jurisdiction of our sector went to a different area and the sitting councillor left the ward rather unceremoniously, as he is contesting from another ward," said Arvind Rudra, former general secretary of Harmony Apartments, Sector 4. "Basically, there is neither any public representative, nor any supervision over the municipal corporation's work. The whole area is being neglected. That is why the mismanaged sanitation in the area.”
“Nobody is serious about maintenance," said Suryapal Singh, RWA president of Suryodaya Apartments, Sector 12. "There is a heap of garbage lying near our boundary wall for weeks. Whom do we lodge a complaint with? Nobody is listening. The councillors are busy with elections and the corporation officials are apathetic as usual.”
