With Haryana government’s rebate of 25 percent on property tax and an interest waiver on the remaining, residents paid up eagerly, resulting in a whopping collection for the corporation.
Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has earned a good amount of revenue at the end of financial year 2016-17, collecting around Rs 297 crore as property tax.
Haryana government offered a rebate of 25 percent on property tax, and also waived off interest on the remaining portion. However, offer was valid till March 31st.
Gurgaon is divided into five zones. The MCG collected Rs 2.3 crore from Zone 0; Rs 26.5 crore from Zone 1; Rs 63 crore from Zone 2; Rs 138 crore from Zone 3, and Rs 67 crore from Zone 4
Many posh societies and commercial establishments of the city fall under Zone 3. It includes MG Road, DLF Phase 1-5, Galleria Market, Ambience Mall, Ardee City, Sushant Lok 1, 2, 3 and several sectors of Gurgaon. While Model Town, Ram Nagar, Shiv Puri, Sectors 10, 4, 7, Hero Honda Chowk and others come under Zone 1.
Sadar Bazar, Palam Vihar, Old DLF Colony, Udyog Vihar Phase 1-5, Sector 14, Sector 5, Sectors 21, 22, 23 and others come under Zone 2. Several societies of Sohna Road, Islampur Village, Narsinghpur Village, Kherki Daula Village, Badshahpur Town and others are part of Zone 4.
MCG Commissioner V Uma Shankar said, “We did several things to make people aware about property tax. We organised tax camps in many societies and commercial establishments. Residents, too, responded enthusiastically. That’s why we were able to collect a good amount.”
Residents are happy too, as they feel this money will be utilised for the development of the city.
Mukesh Bansal, a resident of Sector 45, said, “With the formation of Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and a good revenue earned by the MCG, we certainly hope that the city will look even better. Our problems will be sorted out quicker, and the infrastructure will be improved.”
GP Garg, a resident of Sushant Lok 1, said, “It’s good that the MCG has earned a good revenue. It should take over our society without any delay. Roads of our society are in a real bad shape, and the builder is not doing anything to maintain them.”
