Neighbourhood Watch Scheme picks up pace in Dwarka

The Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, initiated by the Delhi police department, has picked up pace in Dwarka. According Surender Kumar, deputy commissioner of police, South West District, 11 societies are already under the scheme and 28 more have been identified where the scheme would be implemented.

Kumar told City Spidey, “We have been promoting community policing and the residents have responded enthusiastically. In the scheme, the RWA of the society and one person from each family in the society has been roped in to form a Whatsapp group. The group also has the beat officer of the area as a member. This has ensured direct access to the people and their involvement with the police for the security in an area.”

Under the scheme, the police has also been raising awareness on how to ensure security in an area. The lighting of common areas, installation of CCTV cameras, and periodic meetings and counselling are being promoted by the police in the societies.

The societies in Dwarka that are already under the scheme include Shri Ram Apartments in Sector 4;  Sarve Sanjhi Apartments, Azad Hind Apartments and Sukh Sagar Apartments from Sector 9; and Shakuntalam Apartments in Sector 10. The scheme is also active in Sanskriti Apartments in Sector 19; Chitrakoot Apartments and Dream Apartments in Sector 22; New Kanchanjunga Apartments and Harmony Apartments in Sector 23; and Pink Apartments, Pocket 6, Nasirpur.
