Though deferred due to state polls, this Indirapuram society has finally held its elections. However, instead of following the formalities of a full-fledged election, members were chosen directly, as no new nominations were filed.
Post the frenzy surrounding the state assembly polls, Shipra Krishna Vista, a society in Indirapuram, has finally elected its new AOA.
The election, which was held up due to the UP polls, was finally conducted on April 5.
"We were supposed to hold elections for a new body in February but had to defer the dates due the imposition of the model code of conduct on the state, and also the orders of the district administration. We had already initiated the election process at the time," said Arun Rai, the newly elected AOA president. He will be holding the post for a second consecutive term.
Three of the board's nine members resigned to make way for new members. However, they had to be included again, as no other resident had filed nominations.
Speaking to City Spidey, Baldev Bhadok, chairman of the society's election commission, said that despite communicating the dates of the nominations and elections through notice boards and banners, no one had turned up for the elections.
"We did not need the formalities of a full-fledged election, and the members were directly selected instead. We took all possible measures to ensure that residents knew of the entire situation," said Bhadok.
But why did the residents not file nominations? Bhadok answered, “Maybe, the society residents are content with the current AOA body. This could be a possible reason.”
In the board meeting of the new AOA, both Arun Rai and Deepak Jalan were re-elected as the president and vice-president respectively. Deepak Sethi, the previous general secretary, stepped down to make way for Mohit Mittal, the former treasurer. CS Negi was selected as the new treasurer.
Rai said the new AOA would continue its struggle against the builder, while keeping an eye on the society's development. "We have a case on against the builder in the Allahabad High Court. After being pressurised by the AOA, the builder painted the clubhouse and some of the towers. We expect to sort out the issues by July this year," he added.
