The RWA of the 17-acre society has not only invested in the installation of an environment-friendly system but also spent months planning for it.
Vipul Greens, a condominium on Sohna Road, Sector 48, Gurgaon, has left no stone unturned to becomean eco-friendly society.
Water for all green areas in this 17-acre society comes from the society's very own Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which generates 400 kL of water every day. The manure used to maintain lawns is also produced in-house. While currently the society produces 100 kg of manure every day, the RWA has aims to take the numbers to 350 kg.
"Solid waste is the discarded leftover of our advanced consumer society," said Amit Jindal, RWA president. "This growing mountain of garbage and trash represents not only an attitude of indifference toward valuable natural resources but also a serious economic and public health problem.”
The RWA has not only invested in the installation of an eco-friendly system but also spent months planning for it. While the regular resident meetings have addressed the issue, the door-to-door campaigns have promoted this initiative.
Residents of Vipul Greens now segregate their waste - separate bins for organic, reusable and inorganic. The organic waste, once collected, goes through the society's rotating barrel composter and turned into manure.
“STP and wet-waste management plants are great steps that help conserve the environment and recycle waste organically," said Sunil Bansal, a resident at Vipul Greens. "All societies should take initiatives to recycle its sewage and bio-waste.”
