After knocking on all doors, parents and members of All School Parents Association (ASPA), a Ghaziabad-based parents' body, approached Atul Garg, the newly appointed Minister of State in the Adityanath Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh government. With this, the parents have renewed their efforts in seeking a solution to their longstanding dispute with private schools pertaining to fee hikes, conducting of classes in basements and transportation charges, among others, on the morning of April 9.

Parents, in their meeting with Garg, appealed to him to provide a permanent solution to their woes by flagging the issue with Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi.

In a letter addressed to the CM, parents have submitted a list of 13 problems they have been facing with the schools. They range from rapid and arbitrary fee hikes to the sale of cigarettes and gutkha in the vicinity of schools. The letter was handed over to the minister.

Several parents City Spidey spoke to said they had approached several authorities - right from the district administration to the education ministry and the CBSE - but to no avail. “Although the authorities sent several notices and letters to the schools, they have flouted every order,” a parent said.

The parents also said they had been criticised by school authorities for highlighting these issues in the media and social media platforms. "Our action against the school authorities affects the well-being of our wards in these schools." said a parent who requested anonymity. "Our children have also been cornered on occasion. This causes unnecessary stress on the children.”

Shivani Jain, president of ASPA, said parents had high hopes from the current state government. “We have already approached every relevant authority for a solution but to know avail. These atrocities have been increasing by the day. The current government has been pretty active on several fronts and we hope it acts on our issues as well,” Jain added.

In turn, minister Atul Garg assured parents of swift action and that the issue would be forwarded to the chief minister. He also assured them that it would be raised at the Cabinet meeting set to be held on April 11.

Meanwhile, a few parents from Ghaziabad had also joined a mass protest of NCR parents being organised in Jantar Mantar, Delhi, on the same day.
