Residents said the 2-km stretch was also encroached upon by food stalls, vegetable and fruit vendors, and other daily needs shops, had poor lighting and was dusty.
Residents of South City I, Gurgaon, have been suffering the pothole-riddled road to HUDA City Centre Metro station for the past three years. The road connects the township to Signature Tower, Sector 29, a gurudwara and the main market in the area. They alleged that despite several complaints, the authorities had paid no heed to the problem.
Residents said the 2-km stretch was also encroached upon by food stalls, vegetable and fruit vendors, and other daily needs shops. Senior citizens living in the area found it difficult to walk down the road, owing to its poor condition and insufficient lighting, making it a challenge to visit the township market or the gurudwara. As a result of the potholes, the road is also quite dusty, which adds to the air pollution in the area.
"People visiting the market park their cars on the main road, blocking traffic," said Mona Singh, a resident of Block K. "The situation is worst during the peak hours.”
Aparna Sharma, a resident of Block I, said, “We want our society's responsibility to be transferred to Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon [MCG]. We had organised a protest with the demand on March 26. The builder has not been able to fulfil even our basic needs.”
“All the internal roads of the township are dangerous for vehicles, especially two-wheelers. We need to be careful in avoiding potholes. The builder never bothered to repair the roads and we feel like an orphaned society, as neither the builder nor MCG is bothered,” added Sharma.
Rohit Yadav, joint commissioner, MCG, said, “The area has not yet been handed over to us — the transfer is under way. Once the transfer is complete, we will start work on the road."
