DM forms three-member committee to investigate school-fee hikes

NP Singh, the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, has formed a three-member committee to look into the issue of arbitrary school-fee hikes. The move comes after parents were up in arms against the exorbitant increase in fees by several private schools in Noida.

The committee is led by Ramanuj Singh, city magistrate of Noida. The two other members of this committee include the district inspector of schools and the district basic education officer. The committee will submit its report to the district magistrate (DM) in a week.

The committee will also investigate whether schools have allowed children from the economically weaker sections to join. The DM will take action against schools that have not. The committee will start its investigation from Delhi Public School in Sector 132 and Cambridge School in Sector 27.

The DM said the committee would also study the fee hike made by each school, compare the increase in fee over the years and try to ascertain why the hikes were made. "The committee will also investigate whether the schools were forcing students to buy books, bags and other study material from the school campus," Singh added.
