Gurgaon: Women’s cricket league continues...

The All Ladies Cricket League (ALCL) played their second set of matches recently at Ajanta Public School in Sector 31, Gurgaon. The tournament, aimed at empowering women through sports, saw new teams playing against the earlier winners.

In the first match, Team Utsav, an NGO for young girls from underprivileged backgrounds, took the field for the first time. Winning the toss, they elected to bat and scored 63 runs from 15 overs, with 5 wickets down. However, they could not win against SPF Women Power, which won the match by 8 wickets.

Debutant team Sharda Cricket Club

Speaking to City Spidey, Aparna Thakur from the audience said, “It’s a wonderful feeling to witness a women’s match. I feel motivated and am going to work on my fitness to play in the league next time.”

In the second match, Valley Pink Tower played against debutant Sharda Cricket Club. The latter lost the toss and had to bowl first. Valley Pink Tower elected to bat and put up a score of 71 runs from 15 overs, with 3 wickets down.

While Sharda Cricket Club started confidently, it lost wickets in quick succession and the match seemed to have slipped out of its hands. But Asha from the team held the innings together and ensured a steady run chase, costing Valley Pink Tower the match.

“We want to provide them with a chance to prove their talent in sports, and enjoy the applause too,” said cricket coach Ramesh Salman.
