The RWA of Ridgewood Estate, a condominium in DLF Phase IV, Gurgaon, recently installed new hi-tech lifts in all its towers.

The basic difference between the old lifts and the new ones is that old lifts ran on steel wire ropes while the new ones run on steel belts, which are safer. The condominium is one of the oldest in the city and the RWA has been working towards upgrading the amenities.

Sanjay Sethia, executive member of the RWA and in-charge of the lifts, told City Spidey, “These lifts have advanced safety features that are very important nowadays. An automatic rescue device ensures that when there’s a power cut, the lifts go to the nearest floor so that residents can step out. The curtain sensors are so effective that if you put your finger in the middle of the doorway, the door wouldn’t close. There is also a touchscreen, which is an aesthetic feature.”

Deepak Mathur, secretary of the RWA, said, “According to the law, lifts should be replaced by the end of the 21st year. Out of the 24 new lifts in the society, 21 are operational and the rest will be operational in the next few days.”

Meanwhile, residents lauded the RWA over the development. “We are happy with these new lifts and admire the efficiency of the association in discharging its duties.”
