For residents of Sector 137, Noida, who have been facing inconvenience due to dark stretches in the sector, here’s some good news. Noida Authority is likely to begin the installation of streetlights on three such areas near Exotica Fresco, a residential society, soon.

According to an officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the process of awarding a tender to a private contractor is in the final stage. The tender has been floated and a contractor would be selected in a week. The work was delayed by four months as model code of conduct for assembly election was in force.

At an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh, the Authority would cover the dark stretches of road between an upcoming Metro station in the sector and a roundabout next to Exotica Fresco; between a private TV channel’s office and the roundabout; and between Sector 137 police outpost and the roundabout. A streetlight would be placed at the centre of the roundabout.

Residents complain of miscreants stalking maids, incidents of mobile snatching, and even cases of molestation. Many cases have, however, not been reported to the police. Residents also blame such areas for road mishaps.

Pramod Singh Taragi, a resident of the sector, told City Spidey, “The sector is quite populated and is situated opposite the busy Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Many office-goers return late at night from work and face a lot of inconvenience due to inadequate lighting.”

Residents recently launched a Twitter campaign over the issue and even tagged UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Pankaj Singh, local MLA, to draw their attention.

About six months ago, a delegation from the sector had met HS Yadav, chief engineer of Noida Authority, who had ordered his juniors to prepare an estimate for the work.
