A new road connecting NH 8 to MG Road in Gurgaon has come as a relief to commuters, who can finally avoid the traffic mess at Iffco Chowk.
Traffic management at Iffco Chowk, where a new flyover is being constructed, was proving to be a nightmare. The compulsory U-turn for vehicles moving from NH 8 towards Signature Tower, was notorious for traffic snarls caused by heavy traffic from MG road.
The new road allows commuters to take a left before Iffco Chowk and continue on MG Road. “Usually, it took me 25 minutes to cross Iffco Chowk using the older route," said Suresh Kumar, an auto driver. "I used the new route yesterday and surprisingly, there was no jam.”
Speaking to City Spidey, DCP traffic Balbir Singh said, “We have opened this road on a trial basis to see the impact on the traffic scenario. In case we feel it is more effective than the previous plan, we will make it permanent. We will get to know its impact in the coming days."
“I travel from Palam Vihar to Sohna Road every day," said Sunaina Talwar, a resident of Sector 23, Palam Vihar. "Today, it took me only 10 minutes to could cross this intersection. There was no jam today, but let’s see whether the new route works in the long term."
