What's the buzz in NCR?

Here are City Spidey's top six picks from Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon:

1. Air monitoring in Kaushambi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted an expert committee to assess air quality in and around Kaushambi, Ghaziabad. The step was taken in response to a petition by Kaushambi Apartments Residents Welfare Association (KARWA) seeking a check on air pollution in the area.

2. Homebyers' angst: Homebuyers in Noida and Greater Noida are a disgruntled lot. Even after payment of all the dues, builders are denying them possession of their flats by delaying registry. Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Association (CONRWA) wrote to Noida Authority chairman, Rama Raman, demanding action against all such builders who are sitting on completion certificates for their projects.

3. Nest to save sparrow: Okhla Bird Sanctuary has taken a novel initiative to spread awareness about the environment among children. Its officials distributed 53 artificial sparrow nests among the students of RK Public School, Kasna (Noida). The move comes five days ahead of World Sparrow Day on March 20.

4. Daylight robbery in Faridabad: A gang of robbers looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 3.5 crore from a branch of a gold finance company in Faridabad. Six armed men entered the office of Manappuram Finance Ltd at Neelam Bata chowk at around 5.30 pm and robbed its strong room at gun-point. One of the accused is alleged to have recced the premises during the day masquerading as a customer.

5. Clean street drive in Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is hiring 2,263 sanitation workers to sweep the city streets as part of a cleanliness drive. According to MCG officials, night sweeping will be introduced on all major roads. Besides, the civic agency is in the process of acquiring sweeping machines.

6. CM spreads cheer: Resident of Noida and Ghaziabad may not have many facilities but that doesn't mean all is grim in this NCR region. After all, they have a chief minister who has the ability to laugh at himself. We got ample proof of this rare quality when CM Akhilesh Yadav released a compilation of cartoons on him, yesterday (March 14). Titled Tipu ka Afsana, the book chronicles his journey as a politician. For your information, Tipu is the nickname of Yadav.
