Gurgaon: MCG to not charge maintenance fee from residents

Various licensed private colonies — DLF Phase 1, 2, 3, Sushant Lok I and Palam Vihar — will no longer have to pay any maintenance fee to Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG).

Initially, when MCG had decided to charge maintenance fee, residents had objected, alleging that they already paif property tax to MCG.

Over the years, residents have been paying maintenance charges to the developer and property tax to the MCG.

V Umashankar, MCG commissioner, said, "After MCG's takeover, the developers will have to bear the maintenance charges for a period of five years over and above the normal consumption charges on water supply and sewerage.”

He further said the principles of maintenance charges from developers were being defined and a thorough area-wise estimation of maintenance costs will soon be carried out.

Early last year, the state government had directed the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to transfer five colonies to MCG within a month. That time, MCG authorities had claimed that if residents pay additional fee for improved services, they are ready for the takeover.
