Gurgaon: Parents to approach PM’s Mann ki Baat over school fee hikes

Parents have decided to file their complaint against school fee hikes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio programme, Mann ki Baat, after getting no response from the Haryana government.

The angry parents allege that the state government is incapable of addressing their issues and they do not have a policy to regulate private schools across the city.

“We have approached every authority, but in vain," said Bhupender Singh, a member of All Indian Parents Forum for Education. "We are left with the only option of extending our concern to the PM. He is our only hope now. There are more than 1,200 protesting against the arbitrary fee hikes on social media and the government will be forced to take notice. We are sure the news will reach the PM."

Parents said they would file one complaint after the other following which the PM will have to address their grievances.

For most parents the increased fees have become a huge financial burden. "A large chunk of our salary is spent on paying the schools into the funds of these schools," said Anjana Dhariwal, another parent. "We would have loved to get our children enrolled in government schools if not for the substandard  quality and services they offer. Private schools take undue advantage of that and thus extract as much amount as they want."

On April 22, parents of children studying in Blue Bells School protested with a demand to put an end to hikes in the annual and development fee every year. "Our entire day,  11am to 6 pm, was spent protesting against the exorbitant fees," said Yash Kumar, a parent. "It has become a regular habit of the school to inform us about the fee hike through a circular. This needs to stop."
