Bus breaks down near Maharana Pratap Chowk, causes traffic jam

A bus broke down on a road towards Iffco Chowk near Maharana Pratap Chowk in Gurgaon during the morning rush hours on April 25 and caused a huge traffic snarl.

The 250-metre stretch that connects Maharana Pratap Chowk to Iffco Chowk was chock-a-block with traffic for almost two hours. Daily commuters were the most affected as they were stuck in the jam for more than 40 minutes and were late to work.

“The bus was in the middle of the road and there was no police official deployed on the stretch. For two hours, there was no relief,” said Amit Sharma, an MNC employee and resident of Sector 14.

Several lines of vehicles were formed and as some commuters opted to drive in the wrong lane, they aggravated the situation.

Rajesh Tripathi, a resident of Sector 14, told City Spidey, “I was standing near Bata Crossing for over 30 minutes to reach the national highway, which is barely 200 metres from there. Traffic snarls on this stretch are a regular affair."

With the construction of a flyover at Iffco Chowk already in progress, the breakdown of the bus added to the traffic chaos.

Speaking to City Spidey, a Gurgaon traffic official said that they sent a PCR van to the spot and the route has been cleared.
