Regulars to five-star hotels and Huda Gymkhana Club? It's time to rejoice

Five hotels on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway got a clean chit after their distance was measured from the edge of the highway to the point of sale, as per the new guidelines of the Haryana government.

According to the excise officials, Hyatt Regency Gurgaon on NH 8 did not qualify to serve liquor according to the guidelines and hence could not be given the green signal. Sita Heritage Resort, which had changed its entrance to escape the ban, had also applied for measurement but is yet to submit a layout plan to the authorities.

"We have submitted Tuesday's report to the deputy commissioner and the final report will be sent to the headquarters," said HC Dahiya, deputy excise and taxation officer (West). "Pubs and bars that qualify will soon receive the approval to renew their licences."

The hotels that escaped the liquor ban are the Leela Ambience, the Oberoi, the Trident, Huda Gymkhana Club and the Country Inn & Suites By Carslon. Their distances were found to be more than 500 m.

The measurement for these establishments had already been carried out, but the distance was re-measured after the Haryana government issued fresh guidelines saying the distance was to be measured from the highway to the point of sale and not to the point of entry.

The decision was taken after discussions with the designated committee, and the district town planner and senior town planner of the Town and Country Planning Department, and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HSIIDC). The committee consists of a team of officials from the police, Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India, district administration and the excise department.

The report was submitted by the team to the deputy commissioner, Gurgaon, on April 25. Committee members are scheduled to hold discussions on the evening of April 26, after which they will release Tuesday’s final list of establishments affected by the Supreme Court’s ban.

Thirty pubs and bars, including 15 in Sector 29, started serving liquor on the evening of April 24, after they received the green signal from the excise department.
