Hundreds of Gurgaon residents participated on the first day of the peaceful protest against a CNG station being constructed in Sector 49, Sohna Road. The RWAs of 10 condominiums in the vicinity of the CNG pump came together against the construction of the pump, owing to its location.
Residents feel the 30-m-wide road, which is used by thousands of commuters every day, will get even more congested once the pump became operational. But despite several meetings and protests against the CNG station, the district administration decided to proceed with the construction.
Ved Yadav, RWA member of South City II and the spokesperson for the protest, said, "It was a peaceful protest against the authorities for giving an NOC to the CNG pump's location, despite residents voicing their opinion against it."
The traffic congestion owing to the CNG station's position will block the entrances to various societies in the area, such as Sispal Vihar, South City II and Malibu Towne. The traffic disruption will also be a hassle to commuters taking Sohna Road to Faridabad.
Protesters were seen holding placards conveying their concerns and spreading awareness among commuters about traffic disruption on the road.
Raman Malik, BJP spokesperson for the state and also a resident of South City II, joined in to support the protest for a while. Several passers-by identified with the cause, with some even joining in.
Neeraj Yadav, president of South City II RWA, said, “We will be carrying out the protest until April 30. We will decide our next course of action after that. But we will definitely bring this to some conclusion.”
