March 16: The buzz in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon

Here are City Spidey's top five picks from Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon:

Transport authority in the dock: The UP transport department has instituted a probe into the issue of fitness certificates to two 10-year-old commercial vehicles running on diesel. The regional transport authority of Ghaziabad has been asked to file a reply. Transport Commissioner, K Ravinder Naik, promised action against any staffer found guilty. The department was prompted to take the initiative following reports in the media.

E-challan on mobile: Come April, the transport department will issue e-challans through a mobile application. Linked to a bluetooth device, the app generates an instant receipt and also keeps an online database of violators. The data can be used for future enforcement.

Hi-tech townships planned: The second phase of YEIDA's Master Plan-2031 was amended to pave the way for an ambitious project of Yamuna Expressway authority. The authority will develop an industrial township and a heritage city adjacent to Agra, Hathras and Mathura. These townships will come up over 6,000 hectares. This was decided at the joint board meeting of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities on Monday.

Flyover completion stalled: The Hero Honda Chowk flyover in Gurgaon is unlikely to meet its May 2017 deadline. Work on it has hit a stumbling block when the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HSIIDC), through a letter to NHAI, objected to the installation of three electricity towers near its premises.

Fleecing in the name of fee: Parents of school-going kids in Gurgaon have accused many CBSE schools of overcharging. They alleged that the schools have raised fees by 100-200 per cent, way beyond the stipulated hike. The allegation is under scrutiny in an audit of schools under divisional commissioner D Suresh.
