Unhappy homebuyers have started demanding changes in the Real Estate Regulatory (RERA) Act as soon as it was passed by the Centre on May 1.
Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAOA), an apex body of AOAs in Ghaziabad, has written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to form a Real Estate Regulatory Authority for the state. Members of the federation claimed that if the Act was implemented in its current form or the derivative rules formulated by the previous Samajwadi Party-led state government, it would only create confusion instead of being a tool for homebuyers and flat owners.
The publication of the UP RERA rules was followed by much hue and cry among apartment owners and buyers alike, as the rules were only applicable to forthcoming projects and not ongoing projects.
Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, said RERA could not be properly applied without making necessary changes in the real estate regulatory rules and forming the state real estate regulatory authority. “We finally have RERA after several years of struggle; we cannot let it go to waste,” said Kumar.
At a recent meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath assured a delegation of homebuyers from Gautam Budh Nagar that the undiluted rules of the Real Estate Regulatory Act would be applied in Uttar Pradesh in accordance with the set rules issued by the Centre.
