The RWA members of Unitech Fresco, a condominium in Sector 50, Gurgaon, have formed a committee to resolve disputes between residents and their maids.

In case of a dispute between a domestic help and the employer, the committee will hear out both the parties and provide a solution that is acceptable to both.

The committee was formed as part of the RWA's initiative to streamline all policies and functioning related to domestic helps, be it a maid, a servant, a driver or a car cleaner. As the number of residents has increased manifold in the past couple of years, there was a growing need to manage domestic affairs to ensure smooth operations.

Nilesh Tandon, the RWA president, said, “We encourage residents to be part of this committee to help make the society a better place to live in."

The committee members include Bengali-speaking residents to understand the issues better, as most maids come from Bengal. The committee members meet every fortnight to discuss complaints and issues raised by both residents and those employed by them, to formulate new policies and to ensure that all rules are being adhered to, to protect the interests of both parties.

Monika Tandon, a resident and committee member, said, "Both maids and residents are happy with the committee, as they now have a common body to talk to in case of any issues. The committee clears doubts and, most importantly, bridges the gap between the two parties in case of miscommunication or lack of awareness of the defined rules."
