Noida traffic's worst nightmare

With 180 traffic cops leaving Noida this week, it's time we braced ourselves for the traffic disaster that awaits.

Noida traffic's worst nightmare

Getting around in Noida is likely to become a bigger hassle than it already is. The additional cops who had joined Noida traffic police to help ease congestion will be leaving the city this week.

"The additional 180 officers who had come from Meerut have completed their tenure of two months," said Sanjay Singh, Superintendent of Police, Noida traffic police. "We need to fill the gap with a similar-sized team to manage traffic around here. If we don't, the traffic situation will have to be managed with fewer people," he added.

Soon after these cops were brought in, the traffic cell tried out several decongestion measures. It had implemented one-way traffic from Udyog Marg to HCL in Sector 11, and Vyapar Marg (Bans Balli Market Road) to Nayabans Dadri Road.

The initiative managed to minimise traffic snarls on these arterial roads. Now that the cops are leaving, there is no doubt that traffic snarls will again be a problem.

Noida traffic police has urged its top brass to ramp up the force to prevent the imminent crisis.

"If our team is not strengthened soon, we will take the assistance of Noida Authority's civil force to manage traffic flow in the city," said Singh.
