Noida: DMRC blocks Sector 137 drain without permission

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is constructing Metro lines between Noida and Greater Noida, has blocked a drain in Sector 137, Noida, without obtaining the requisite permission from the department of public health.

According to sources in the Noida Authority, DMRC blocked a big drain near an upcoming Metro station in Sector 142, Noida, to carry out the development work. It did not seek any permission for doing so.

As a result, the drain has been overflowing, with sewage having found its way to the road. This has become not only an inconvenience but a cause for concern for residents of Sector 137.

Residents complain that the blockage is an invitation to health issues as it is the only drain that channelises sewage away from the sector. The drain and a big trench is filled with sewer water and are prone to becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

VK Asthana, a resident of Paras Tierea, Sector 137, says, “The sewage stinks horribly and we find it difficult to breathe. The officers concerned need to look in to it immediately. We are facing this problem for the past two weeks.”

Umesh Sharma, sanitation inspector with Noida Authority, told City Spidey that he has been consistently requesting DMRC officials to pump out the water, but in vain. “My department has written to DMRC and appropriate action from them is awaited,” he said.

The DMRC spokesperson was not available for comment.
