Construction work on the 650-m underpass between sectors 60 and 61 in Noida will be completed by June this year.

The Rs 62-crore project was initially supposed to be completed by February. Noida Authority, however, claims that only finishing touches are left.

In a bid to make the 8-km-long DSC Road signal-free, Noida Authority has plans to construct three underpasses. Of the three, the underpass at Sector 60-61 is under construction, and two more will be constructed at Mamura and Sector 71.

These underpasses will reduce travel time on the DSC Road from 25 minutes to just 10.

Work on the Sector 60-61 underpass had started in August 2015.

According to Noida Authority officials, work on the Blue Line Metro, the overhead high-tension power line and the Ganga Jal supply line are proving to be big hurdles in the work, leading to delays.

An official added, “The Blue Line Metro, heading towards Sector 62 from Gurgaon City Centre runs parallel to the underpass — and the pillars are right in the middle of the underpass.”

“There’s also work on a high-tension line of 1,32,000 volts. The Ganga jal pipeline runs underneath, so trenching here is fraught with risk,” the official added.

PK Garg, project engineer of Noida Authority, said work was 80 per cent complete and that the underpass would be opened to commuters by the first week of June.
