In continuance of their struggle against schools over fee hikes, about 150 parents of children studying in various schools in Noida and Greater Noida staged a protest outside the collectorate in Surajpur, Gautam Budh Nagar, on May 11.

They demanded stringent action against schools’ managements for not adhering to an order given by the state government on May 8, 2013.

According to the order, private schools should not be collecting fees more than that prescribed in the order. They may factor in inflation and charge annual fees sufficient to pay salary to the staff. The order also said that a school cannot make profits more than 20 per cent of the total fee collected in an academic session and that the fees should not be hiked within a period of three years from the date of the previous hike.

Parents alleged that the order had been flouted by the schools in the aforementioned cities as they were increasing the fees every year. They said that when they went to the schools to pay fees in accordance with the government order, the schools refused to accept the amount.

They met BN Singh, District Magistrate, at his office in the district headquarters and demanded that the collectorate initiate action against management of those schools who were not adhering to the order. They also demanded that the process of cancelling the No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is given by the state government, should be given priority.

Sandeep Singh, a parent, told City Spidey, “The collector has assured us that our grievance will be taken into consideration.”
