Akriti Nandy and Parul Sinha, the residents of South City II, Gurgaon, who helped find a lost pet, Rexy, have decided to use the reward of Rs 2 lakh for the welfare of stray dogs. The girls received the reward from Venus and Rick Green, Rexy's owners.

It was a mutual decision to spend the money on helping stray dogs with food and shelter, getting them vaccinated and on their treatment.

“We know plenty of stray dogs here," said Nandy. "Both of us play with them a bit and offer them dog biscuits. Therefore I thought of investing on the dogs we have a connect with, rather than giving the money away to some random animal shelter. Hopefully, we can give a better life to the ones on streets.”

Sinha, also a resident of South City II, communicated to City Spidey, “We both want the money to be used wisely," said Sinha. "If Akriti spends on vaccination and treatment, I would spend on feeding the strays and we both can contribute towards injured dogs. This is how we have planned to move forward.”

On discussing various dog-bite cases in Gurgaon recently, Nandy said, “It happens purely because of our hostile behavior towards them. Dogs attack humans when they sense a threat. We should behave in a friendly manner with them.”

When Rexy, an adopted street dog, went missing on May 7, the Greens had put up various posters and pictures on social media and announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information on Rexy's whereabouts. On May 9, the 18-year-olds had called and informed Rick about Rexy, who they had found roaming in a nearby market.
