Ghaziabad: Lax response from Dial 100?

Residents of Indirapuram and Crossings Republik complain that they haven’t been able to avail the service as they either heard an engaged tone or the calls ended up with the control rooms of Delhi or Noida.

Dial 100, the police department’s emergency service to streamline the process of registering complaints and ensuring prompt action, seems to have failed to live up to the expectations of residents of high-rise societies in Indirapuram and Crossings Republik of Ghaziabad.

Residents say they have been unable to reach the police by dialing the number at night as they would either hear an engaged tone or the call would end up at the control rooms of Delhi or Noida.

Pooja Shrivastava, a resident of Crossings Republik, says, “There have been many instances when I called the number over 30 times but failed to contact the police. Every time, the call ended up with Delhi or Noida [control rooms] and I was asked to try again.”

Sharing similar sentiments, Vishal Papneja, an Indirapuram resident, says that his calls also ended abruptly or he heard the engaged tone. “Recently, I spotted five men roughing up another man near Swarn Jayanti Park. I tried to call the police by dialing the number but to no avail. I did not get involved as I feared that the men could have been armed. Luckily, local residents and security guards came to the rescue and the miscreants fled the spot,” he adds.

In such situations, the distressed residents have had to get help from someone else or go the police themselves.

When City Spidey spoke to Akash Tomar, SP City of Ghaziabad, he said that the problem was mostly in the areas bordering Ghaziabad and other neighbouring regions. “We have shared the numbers of the police stations and the control room to tackle the situation. I have also discussed the issue with the SP, control room, and he’s is trying to get the matter sorted from Lucknow,” Tomar added.
