Dwarka: Why do these societies depend on DJB tankers?

Posted: May 19, 2017     By Akhilesh Pandey

What’s ailing societies such as Harmony Apartments (Sector 4), DDA SFS Flats (Sector 5), Dwarka Kunj Apartments and Rihayashi Apartments (Sector 12), and several others? Inadequate water supply. That, too, in this sweltering heat.

According to residents, the scarcity is mainly due to inadequate water supply to the reservoir in Sector 4 and faults in supply lines to societies.

RWA general secretary of DDA SFS Flats in Sector 5, Mahesh Gupta, said, “We do not get enough water — and now we have to depend on Delhi Jal Board [DJB] tankers. We get between four to five tankers from DJB every day to meet our demands. Here's the problem — the underground reservoir from which we get water gets inadequate supply from the main command tank 3.”

The situation is further aggravated by faulty supply lines.

Gupta added, “Water is supplied for half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evening. But of the 364 flats, about 125 flats do not get water because the pipelines in that area are too narrow. We have written to the Delhi Development Authority [DDA] and DJB about the issues, but nothing has been done yet.”

RWA general secretary of Rihayashi Apartments, GB Joshi, said, “For more than 20 corner flats at the back of the society, water supply is extremely poor. We had written about the subject and a survey was also conducted in the pocket, but nothing happened after that. Now we are going to meet our MLA about the matter.”

President of the society, Ved  Prakash, added, “Water has always been an issue, particularly in summers. We are at the end of the sector, and far from the underground reservoir from where we get the supply. We get water only after the tanks of the other societies are filled. We want our own reservoir inside the society — we have space for that as well. We have written to the authorities, and all we can do now is wait.”

Area MLA Gulab Singh Yadav has assured residents of prompt action and taking up the matter with DJB.
