Unitech Unihomes, Noida: Buyers block road to demand flats Buyers of Unitech Unihomes block Noida Extension road near Sector 121

A group of nearly 200 homebuyers of Unitech Unihomes, a project in Sector 117, Noida, blocked the Noida Extension road near Sector 121 today from 9 am, demanding possession of flats.

The blockade continued for three hours, throwing traffic out of gear.

“I have been stuck here for more than two hours now. I was going to Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad to meet my cousin. Certainly, I chose the wrong route,” complained Satish Kumar, a commuter.

Homebuyers alleged they had booked their homes in 2009, and the developer had promised to deliver the flats within two years. But the buyers, who have already paid 95 per cent of the money, are still living on rent.

Vipin Gupta, a resident of Unitech Unihomes, told City Spidey that about 180 families have shifted into flats but that basic amenities were still lacking. “The builder has not taken the occupancy certificate from Noida Authority. Electricity and water connections are still pending. So we get our electricity from generators and water from tankers,” he added.

Residents further say there’s no approach road to the society. Moreover, the security and housekeeping arrangements by the builder are not adequate.

“City magistrate Ramanuj Singh had come down to talk to the buyers. He has fixed a meeting between Noida Authority officials and the buyers tomorrow,” Gupta added.

The developer still needs to build 27 towers, housing 2,200 flats.
