Fed up of repeated postponement of the NH24 tender process, residents of Ghaziabad townships have taken to Twitter to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention.

The project to widen the National Highway from 8 to 14 lanes was commissioned last December. Since then, it has been a continuous stream of postponements, the latest delayed date being March 29.

Residents mainly from Crossings Republik and Indirapuram took to Twitter to demand answers from Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India.

Hashtags such as #NH24Dream started circulating on Twitter on Friday, when residents were informed about the latest postponement. The tweets demanded the reason behind the delays and said it raised questions on the credibility of the government.

Sameer Shrivastav, a resident of Crossings Republik, said that the government had promised to complete the work within 400 days of its announcement last December. "If there is a problem with the bidders, the government should take necessary action, not keep delaying the project indefinitely," he said.

Alok Kumar, FedAOA president, told City Spidey, "The work on the widening of NH24 should have already started. This project will greatly benefit townships such as Indirapuram and Crossings Republik, as regular commuters face a lot of traffic issues because of the narrow highway."

With March 29 set as the latest deadline for the tender, residents hope the authorities will keep their word this time around.
