This busy road in Gurgaon is now a one-way street, quite literally

The Sector 14 HUDA market road, which gets especially chaotic on weekends, has been made one-way from 5 pm to 9 pm every weekend, starting today.

From today, the main Sector 14 HUDA market road will be made one-way from 5 pm to 9 pm on weekends. This step was taken by the sector RWA, with support from the traffic police. The motive was to keep traffic snarls at bay, especially on weekends, when the market gets really busy.

People from across the city visit the market – which is right in the middle of the residential area - for its many eateries and street food joints, leaving their cars haphazardly parked or creating traffic ruckus. Residents, understandably, are quite miffed.

Speaking to City Spidey, Dinesh Agarwal, president of the RWA, said, “I am fed up of the traffic in the evenings. We went to meet the DCP, Crime, on May 8 to make this road one-way, and he understood our concern.”

The RWA plans to instal 25 One-Way Parking, No Parking and No Halting boards around the market, so residents and commuters are made aware of the move.

Traffic police will also tow away wrongly parked vehicles or those disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.

SS Yadav, general secretary of the RWA, said, “Since my house is close to the market, people park their vehicles right in front of the main gate and go for a happy stroll in the market - as if there’s nobody else that matters! There have been times where I have had to wait outside for a long time just to get the vehicle moved. It’s frustrating!”

Though residents are happy with the road being made one-way on weekends, they now want to extend it to all other days as well.
