Ghaziabad: No place for illegal construction

GDA has started a strict campaign against illicit builders. Many properties in Niti Khand II and III have already been sealed, and there will be more that follow.

Ghaziabad: No place for illegal construction Plot 471 of Niti Khand II, Indirapuram, one of the sealed plots

Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has toughened its stand against illegal construction and started a campaign against illicit builders. Recently, GDA's enforcement team sealed properties in Niti Khand II and Niti Khand III, Indirapuram.

Enforcement officials said they had found a few illegal properties based on resident complaints, and sealed them all.

Dayanand Prasad, OSD of GDA, said that over the past few days, action had been initiated against several illegal plots, one of them being Plot 471 of Niti Khand II. These constructions had been examined and found to be in contravention of the plans — and hence sealed. “The builder can make changes to the approved plan within permissible limits, but if it exceeds this, the property will be demolished. We will issue further notices on the matter," added Prasad.

At a recent meeting, Kanchan Verma, the vice-chairman of GDA, issued strict orders to the enforcement department, warning of action against any negligence on the part of an officer.

Verma will hold meetings with the enforcement department every evening to keep track of developments. She has also dug out old records and pointed out that no action had been taken on more than 4,600 pending orders for demolition. Verma further ordered that the pending orders be executed and action be taken on the issued notices. Following the orders, officials have started identifying and sealing illegal constructions.
