We bet Dwarka residents spend a fortune on car maintenance

One drive around the streets of Dwarka, and you will probably be disappointed. Be it a road passing through a sector or the master plan road, you are bound to come across potholes, cracks or uneven surfaces. The condition of the roads is worse near traffic signals and turns.

Residents said Delhi Development Authority (DDA) does not take the issue seriously.

The slip near Peepal Apartments in Sector 17 is in such bad shape that commuters avoid it altogether. "The road is a threat to commuters, bikes and auto-rickshaws," said Rekha Jhingan, a resident of Peepal Apartments. "And this is the case with several of the roads in Dwarka."

Shobhit Chauhan, an RTI activist, has written to the civic bodies about the problem. He shared, “At the T-point near Peepal Apartments, the slip road by the district park in Sector 13 is in such a bad shape that vehicles should not even be allowed on it. People living in the vicinity said the situation has been this way for a year. The slip road at Ashirvad Chowk, one of the busiest junctions in Dwarka, is also lying in a shambles. A huge pothole in the middle of the slip road beside the Sector 12 market has made it dangerous to commute on.”

The pothole near Metro View Apartments

A big pothole at a turn near Metro Apartments in Sector 13 has been the cause of several accidents in the area.

"The pothole is a testament to DDA's mediocre quality of work," said Vinod Rawat, general secretary of the Metro Apartments RWA. "The pothole is getting bigger and DDA has not moved a finger to fix it."

The master plan roads are mostly damaged near the signals. The stretches near the signals at Ashoka Apartments in Sector 12, Great India Apartments in Sector 6, and Carmel Chowk are some of the places where the road is damaged at the traffic signals.

When City Spidey discussed the matter with SN Singh, chief engineer, DDA, Dwarka, he said, “I have directed the concerned officials to get the status of these locations. We will treat this on priority and all the roads will be repaired as soon as possible."
