Trees conspiring against residents of Sec 56, Gurgaon?

Residents of Sector 56, Gurgaon, have a number of problems — with trees.

The sector's RWA has received numerous requests about the urgent pruning of overgrown branches.

Kiran Oberoi, a resident, said, "Last week, the branches of a tree came in contact with the low-tension wires overhead, which resulted in a power outage. There was no electricity for almost 15 hours," said Oberoi. "These branches need to be pruned."

Sahil Arora, another resident, said, “The trees in front of my house also touch the overhead cables, and problems with power cuts are pretty common."

According to residents, the overgrown trees also affect the safety of those on two-wheelers. Furthermore, they said, there were scratches on cars from falling twigs.

"There have been a couple of incidents in which residents on two-wheelers, unable to gauge how low the branches are hanging, have ridden right into them and fallen," said Suresh Gupta, a resident.

Residents are scared their kids will meet a similar fate while riding their cycles.

Talking about the issue, Sudhir Bhardwaj, a resident of the sector, said, “We have written to the forest department, the horticulture department and the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon [MCG] about the issue but are yet to receive a response."

He further added, “The RWA has started pruning the smaller branches and tying up the larger ones to keep them away from the cables."
