Proactive cooperation from residents will help check crime, a senior police official said, asking Noida RWAs to maintain a daily complaints register.
Noida Police has started to work with residents’ bodies to check the growing crime rate in the city. With proactive cooperation from residents’ bodies, the police hope to be able to create a greater sense of security among residents of housing societies.
Addressing a joint meeting with residents of different localities at the community centre of Sector 49, on Sunday, Arun Kumar Singh, SP City said he had asked police officers to reach out to residents. “I have already written to officers with police stations in the city to reach out to each RWA for solving problems. The police will interact with security guards on duty at the entry gates of each sector on a daily basis,” he said.
Security guards at the entry gates have been asked to maintain a roster to note complaints, which will be reviewed by police officers daily. “I appealed to RWAs to keep a roster at the entry gates for recording complaints on a day-to-day basis. The police will be entrusted with the responsibility of checking out the register every day to solve the problems,” the district police chief said.
Referring to the murder case of a 25-year-old who was shot dead by her boyfriend in the parking lot of Shatabdi Rail Vihar Apartments, a residential complex in Sector 62, Singh said that security guards on duty tried to prevent the entry of the boy. But the girl herself had helped him enter the complex and was seen talking to him for nearly three hours. The duo was seen by several residents, who did not suspect anything foul was about to happen, the police officer said.
Singh asked the members of RWAs to spare some time to do patrolling of areas within the housing complex to check and prevent any suspicious activity. The police will meet RWA representatives once a month to discuss and resolve problems, if any, he said.
