Lifts in East End Apts will not be replaced, just upgraded

At a special general body meeting held in East End Apartments today, it was decided that all the 58 lifts of the society would not be replaced, as earlier discussed, but equipped with a modern system.

Talking to City Spidey after the meeting, BK Singh, president of the society's managing committee, said, “It was a unanimous decision between the committee members and the residents that all the lifts would be modernised using advanced technical systems.”

City Spidey was informed that each flat owner in all the 29 multistorey buildings would have to contribute Rs 25,000 to Rs 27,000 for this development.

K Pashupathi, a senior member of the East End managing committee, in a conversation with City Spidey a couple of days ago, had said the amount could be reduced to Rs 7,000.

BK Singh, however, said, "We have estimated that about Rs 25,000 will be required from each flat owner living in the multistorey buildings. The amount, however, is not fixed. It depends on our negotiations with the lift vendor. If we can bring the cost down, flat owners will also have to pay less."

Singh further said an estimate of Rs 3.12 crore was required to modernise all the 58 lifts in the society. “The work on the lifts will start soon,” he said.

However, when asked whether the committee had finalised a date for the commencement of this development work, he said, "A date has not been fixed yet. It will take more than a year to complete this project.”
