With a third of the month of June over, residents of Indirapuram await the fulfillment of Ghaziabad police’s promise to hold meetings and enhance community policing to improve the law and order situation in the township. In May, the police had issued a statement that such activities would be regularly carried out from June.

Speaking to City Spidey, residents said that although top police officials of the district promised that there would be regular meetings between the police, residents and RWAs from June, they have not been informed of any such meetings yet. Residents said that every time the top officials of Ghaziabad police changed, the new officers made similar promises. At times, a meeting or two were organised after several follow ups but it could not be turned into a regular affair.

They also pointed out that it was promised that those incharge of local police posts would form messaging groups on Whatsapp, which would include local residents, resident body (AOA or RWA) members and police personnel.

Rakesh Kumar, president of Amrapali Village, a society that falls under Abhay Khand police post, said that he had not heard of any such group being formed for communicating with residents. “However, it would be a great initiative if residents were given access to such a potent mode of communication with the police,” Kumar added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Deepak Jalan, vice-president of Shipra Krishna Vista AOA, said that their AOA also had not been incorporated in any such communication platform. He maintained that proper communication would provide a better sense of security to the residents and the neighborhood.

Alok Kumar, a resident of Arihant Harmony in Ahinsa Khand II and the patron of FedAOA, said, “Every time the police officials change, we are given assurances that the new officials will stay in constant contact with AOAs. But ultimately they fail to deliver. They issue statements to the press regarding such activities but stay away from interaction on the ground. This leaves the public without any information regarding their local police.”

He added that the police posts do not have any contact number displayed on their boards and in situations when residents approach the posts and the incharge is absent, it becomes difficult to contact them.

When City Spidey spoke to Akash Tomar, SP City of Ghaizbad, he said that a list of noted and socially active residents from Indirapuram has been prepared, and the meetings would be scheduled soon and would be held at the Indirapuram police station. On being asked about communication over Whatsapp, Tomar said that the initiative would be taken following the meetings.
