Gurgaon: Sec 46 RWA to house pressers in sheds

Sector 46 RWA, Gurgaon, on Sunday decided to build sheds for all those engaged in ironing clothes of the residents. It called for a meeting, invited the pressers, or presswallas, and informed them of the plan to allot sheds to them and in turn they must follow certain norms.

Firstly, the RWA will locate them at designated points and more important, it will regulate the prices they can charge from residents.

Sector 46 is a sprawling sector with 3,200 plots and there were 5,000 families residing. With such a good market, the pressers will have a chance to make a decent earning. But they ought to follow certain regulations fixed by the RWA. Firstly, they would be shifted to sheds located close to the boundary walls of the school and park, instead of residential houses as they are now.

Raj Kumar Yadav, RWA president, told City Spidey that “The people who do ironing, will be provided neat and tidy sheds. Because of their location, they had started giving preferential treatment to some residents, and it must stop. Now they have to follow the rate list they have been issued last year. We will keep a check on this.”

"We will also ensure that the sheds are no misused and provide them dustbins to keep them clean," added Yadav.

The RWA will provide them sheds that would measure 8 by 10 foot. They have been issued instructions to keep the sheds neat and tidy.

Om Prakash, who has been working in the colony for a long time, said, “It is good that this rule will apply to everyone equally.” Mukesh, another presswalah, said, “Some of us did not have proper sheds. It is a nice step that we all will have similar sheds.”
